Flovel FZ-B1 Ultra High Sensivity Colour HD Camera - now available for hire

  Monday 29 July 2013 - 10:12:43 | nickturner

Tshed in association with For-A UK are now offering the unique Flovel FZ-B1 camera for hire. This new HD camera employs state of the art imaging technology. No other camera on the market offers such high-quality HD color video reproduction at such low-light levels as mere moonlight. As the latest addition to FLOVEL's extensive line of high-end HD specialty cameras, the new FZ-B1 has at its core a 2/3-inch CMOS 1.3 megapixel color image sensor. The compact camera records in 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 720p/60p and 720/50p formats and has an unprecedented low-light sensitivity of only 0.01 lux. The camera is perfectly suited to filming in extremely low light levels such as dusk/dawn and brighter moonlight. With its optional infrared mode the camera can easily be switched from colour lowlight to infrared sensiitivity, allowing footage to be captured in both colour and infrared in one package, rather than having to use/hire two separate camera systems for a night time sequence. The camera was recently used by NHK Japan to film a giant squid for the first time as well as spectacular displays of bioluminescence in full colour.

Underwater Nightvision

  Friday 10 May 2013 - 11:38:12 | nickturner

It's here! finally our underwater Starlight/Infrared Camera system has its first swimming pool test in Bristol with underwater specialists Doug Anderson, John Chambers and Katharina Brown. The new system will be deployed in the Red Sea in June for its first field trip, until then we have some refinements to make to the housing and underwater infrared lights. By putting our tried and tested Starlight cameras underwater we hope to open up some entirely new territory in the realms of nighttime film making. Crews will now be able to dive and film in the sea at night without visible lights using the same technology that has been developed for terrestrial filming over the last 20 years.

Stargazing Live - The Colours of Stars with Mark Thompson

  Wednesday 09 January 2013 - 19:11:04 | nickturner

A great sequence here on tonight on BBC2's Stargazing Live featuring one of our cameras, all about the colours of stars. Unlike the Rhinos material in Africa this hasn't been noise-reduced/post-produced by our friends at Ammonite Ltd . This material is straight out of the camera so it's a little noisier than normal and filmed with a mixture of starlight and infrared light by one of our starlight operators Mark Payne Gill.

Some new footage from our Starlight cameras broadcasts next week on the forthcoming Africa series from the BBC Natural History Unit. Justine Evans, wildlife filmmaker and co-developer of our HD Starlight cameras was sent to Africa last year to film black rhinos for this groundbreaklng series about African wildlife. Black rhinos are notoriously difficult creatures to see in the wild, but armed with our night vision equipment Justine was able to observe and film new and previously unknown nocturnal behaviour including some curious nocturnal liasons.
